Everything stays on GitHub. Mergiato gives it a window.
Mergiato is a desktop app on top of GitHub, signed in through the GitHub CLI you already use. Your repositories, branch rules and history stay where they are. Every comment, approval and merge lands on GitHub as your own account, and your team sees it there as usual.
Free, no sign-up. For Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
What stays GitHub's
-
Repositories and permissions. Mergiato can do what your
ghsign-in can do, and nothing more. - Reviews, comments and approvals. They're written to GitHub, where your team reads them on github.com.
- GitHub Actions. Your workflows run as before; Mergiato shows each job and re-runs the failed ones.
- Branch protection and merging. The Merge button follows the repository's rules: GitHub's merge queue, or the merge methods it allows.
- GitHub Enterprise. Sign the GitHub CLI in to your server, and Mergiato uses it.
What Mergiato adds

|---|---|---|
| Find what needs you | Notifications, filters, saved searches | One inbox: your PRs and review requests, refreshed every 30 seconds |
| Read the checks | The Actions tab, a few clicks per job | Each job's latest run and time on the PR; re-run the failed ones in one click |
| Big diffs | Large files wait behind Load diff, one at a time | Every file, up to GitHub's 3,000, smooth while you scroll |
| Stacked PRs | Branch names, or a separate tool | The whole stack on the PR, with ↑ ↓ to move along it |
| Merge | GitHub's button | One button that merges the way the repo does, and says why when it can't |
| Previews | The Vercel dashboard, or a bot comment | State per project; deploy the branch from the PR |
| A shell | Another app, then cd to the clone |
Docked under the PR, already in its clone |
| Getting around | Tabs and the back button | A keyboard shortcut for everything, listed with ⌘/ |
When you'll still open github.com
Mergiato is for pull requests. Issues, projects, repository settings and browsing code outside a PR stay on github.com, and every PR in Mergiato links to its page there.
Questions
Is Mergiato a GitHub App or a browser extension?
Neither. It's a desktop app that runs the GitHub CLI on your machine. Nothing gets installed in your organization or your browser.
Does my team need it too?
No. Everything you do lands on GitHub as usual, so it works for one person on a team of a hundred. Teammates who like what they see can download it themselves.
Does it work with GitHub Enterprise?
Yes. Sign the GitHub CLI in to your server with gh auth login --hostname github.example.com, and
Mergiato uses that sign-in.
Will it burn through my GitHub rate limit?
It's built to be frugal: the inbox is a few searches with small pages, requests are shared and cached, avatars cost nothing, and polling pauses while the app is in the background.
